Kantha stitch silk saree directly from the artisans of West Bengal. The saree is designed with beautiful patterns in traditional hand embroidered kantha stitches. The saree body, border and pallu are designed with floral patterns. The indigenous art and craft form of Kantha stitch is still kept alive and flourishing by the skilled hand embroidery artists of West Bengal. The intense combination of running stitches and bhorat stitches (filler stitches) embellishes each saree with splendid colourful designs.
• The kantha’s distinctive embroidery represents a sophisticated art form, innovative design and technical expertise. Kantha stich is an age-old embroidery of Bengal and done on silk fabrics/ silk than.
• The designs of Kantha saree are taken from day-to-day life, depicting folk stories , epics, mythological background, geometric designs, ritualistic motifs, luxurious vegetation with roaming animals, running dear, dancing peacock, temples etc. Lotus is the most common and important motif used in kantha. The main colours used are white, red, deep blue and black. “Kalka” is another important motif, (a cone or mango shaped,) embroidered in association with spiral whirls, broad band of circles, lotus or heart shaped foliages.
